I am trying to change the front pully on my 8n tractor. I was able to get the front end on bolted (hood off as well) except I cant't get the control arms off the pitman arms. how do you get these to relase off the pitman arms? Ok so I tried to pull the front end forward enough to get a wrench on the pully nut but I can't get it to relase. I hope someone can help me with this, thanks,

Your New Holland (Ford) dealer has the special screw and lock washer to hold the pump drive pulley on.

Paul, if you will unscrew the ball joint nut on the sector arm shaft about 3 or 4 turns (to protect the threads) then place a block between the nut and the transmission case and smack the sector arm, the ball joint will come off. It works the same on the other end where the drag link hooks onto the steering arm of the front wheels. Just unscrew, block and smack!

Dell taught me how to thread close line into a sparkplug hole and it works great! If you still have the crankshaft pulley bolt that has the catch for the hand crank, you will have to modify the bolt or go to a bolt supply store and buy the correct threaded bolt. Hope this helps.

Paul..... .....Don't know why you think you need to pull the frontend off your N-Tractor to change the crankshaft pully. Get a socket that fits the crankshaft nut, putt it on. Then with a long extention, go thru the radiator shell and unscrew it, CCW.

BUT BIG TRICK..... . stuff a soft 1/4" clothesline rope into any sparkie and fill up the cylinder, then when you torque your crankshaft nut the rope will stop the crankshaft from turning and you can apply the full 150 ft/lbs to remove or install the crankshaft bolt that holds the crankshaft pully on its half-moon key..... .....Dell
