Help! Does anyone have any tricks for removing these rusty 5/8 x 6" carriage bolts? I think I will have to destroy them in order to do it. Better yet, can anyone tell me where to get a similiar replacement? Does FNH still stock these things?

The FNH dealer I went to had only course thread carriage bolts to replace my old ones. They work, but they're not like the originals. Also, the new ones I have are fully threaded instead of just the last 1.5" like on the originals. Has anyone used Don's bolts? Are they fine thread and only threaded at the tip like the originals?

They are fine threads, clear zinc plated. Threads are only on the ends. don

Arthur, I had the same problem also. I don't have a torch so I had to use a saz-all to cut part of them off, the I drilled down the center, increasing the drill size until the hole was large enough to collaps it and drive it out. WOW, what a pain. Had the same thing on the front axle bolts. I still have the large pin that goes through the spring at the back of the transmission top cover. I just can't get it out.

FNH does stock these, I Replaced mine last summer. Be careful beating on these I have seen broken "ears" from this method. I used a torch and heated till red hot then using a drift they slid right out. (Oh yeah, I tried the penetrant too, and it worked on other bolts but not these)
