Would it be alright to use regular grease from the ol' grease gun to fill up the gear box on the hog.

I just drained out the old stuff that was in there...it had a lousy color to it.

I have about 6-8 tubes of grease for the gun in the barn and was wondering if I could use that today?

Thanks.

Sal, Use 80 or 90 wt. gear oil. Dell will probably
concur.

I don't think I would use "Ball joint" grease in your gear box, I'm not sure it would hold up from the stress and heat?

I would have thought Dell would have answered this question with specs from his BMW and Boeing Manuals !

If your haveing problems with a leaky seal, Woods sells a real thick gear box oil, it's allmost like a low temp grease.

hope this helps

Seals are fine. It's time to change the oil in there and get some cutting done this season...Plus I am cheap and wanted to use what I had on hand if it would not hurt anything.

Got it drained...the oil was in tough shape, need to top it off in the next day or two and get to work out back.

I am going to look into the specs on the grease and see what it can handle...

Thanks.

The specs for my post hole digger say to use 90 weight in the transmission.

Hope this helps.

While I use 100 wt gear oil in mine, my neighbor who has several bush hogs, uses gun grease all the time, and he has been at it a whole lot longer than I have. I just doubt that you could use it on a cold day in the fall. That grease would be ssstifff. As a matter of fact, he drilled and tapped a hole in one of his so he could put in a grease fitting. If it doesn't work, you can take it back out. Might have to mix some kerosene with it to remove it tho.
