My '46 2n lift arm will drop quickly, sometimes. they don't do this all the time but will do it for awhile and then will go back to normal. It seams to happen after using the lift realy hard. Any idea what might be causing this? stuck valves or something?

Sounds to me like you may have a bad pressure relief valve in the pump.

Replace it with the newer type if it still has the original.

However I did just this past week fix a relief valve in a 641 that had picked up some type of plastic material and it was making the lift really weak. I took it apart and blew out the plastic stuff and put it back together and it worked great. Usually though the N relief valve can't be fixed by the handyman because usually the seat is badly erroded and or the ball it beat up and not round so it can't seal.

What is the proper way to attach the sway bars to the drawbar.Does this lock the drawbar in position to use the front end loader?

The way the sway bars are connected has nothing to do with the operation of the loader. If you have one of the old loader with one way cylinders and a trip dump for the bucket then you will have to tie the lift arm down with chains in order to raise the lift.

This is not a good set up because you must find the neutral position on the touch control handle when the loader reaches where you want to hold it and if it goes to the maximum height and you do not find the neutral point with the touch control handle you will make the pressure relief valve open and put an unhealthy load on it and the other components of the lift. This is not good!
