I JUST PURCHASED A BEARCAT 3 POINT POWER TAKE OFF DRIVEN CHIPPER. THE CHIPPER WAS SUPPLIED WITH A VERY SHORT 1-3/8" PTO SHAFT. I DO NOT WANT TO USE THIS WITH MY OVER RUNNING CLUTCH INSTALLED BECAUSE THE ADDITIONAL LENGTH WILL CAUSE UNWANTED LOADING ON THE PTO SHAFT AND ON THE ORC. FOR NOW, I AM PLANNING TO USE THE 1-1/8" TO 1-3/8" ADAPTER SLEEVE. HAS ANYONE EVER CONVERTED ONE END OF A PTO SHAFT TO 1-1/8" 6 TOOTH? ALSO, HOW WOULD THE PTO SHAFT STAY ATTACHED TO THE 1-1/8" SPLINE? THE 1-1/8" SLINE ON THE TRACTOR IS ONLY CROSS DRILLED FOR A ROLL PIN, IT IS NOT NOTCHED LIKE THE 1-3/8" SPLINE TO ACCEPT A SPRING LOADED SLIDE PIN TO KEEP THE PTO SHAFT FROM SLIPPING OFF. THANKS FOR YOUR HELP. PHILIP.

Nobody answered you about how to hold the coupling onto the spline if there is no groove! Does anybody know the answer to that? I have never used a 1.12 pto but there must be some means to hold the coupling in place!

You can get a 1 1/8" end for the shaft on you chipper-shredder. We changed the PTO end on our sickle bar mower to a 1 1/8" end. It is basically like replacing the U joints on a car drive shaft. After 20 years everything is still working good. HTH Don

THANKS FOR THE ADVICE DON. I AM CONSIDERING REPLACING THE TRACTOR SIDE DRIVE SHAFT YOKE TO 1-1/8" HOW WILL THAT ATTACH TO THE 8N PTO SHAFT MALE SPLINE? ALL I SAW ON THE TRACTOR MALE SPLINE WAS A THROUGH HOLE FOR A ROLL PIN. THE 1-3/8" ORC HAS A CUT IN IT FOR A SPRING LOADED PIN TO HOLD THE DRIVE SHAFT IN PLACE. THANKS. PHILIP.

The 1 1/8 end fits over the PTO and you can get a pin from Tractor Supply, Orschelns, and other farm supply dealers. This pin has a spring that goes the full length of the pin and unfastens to remove it from the shaft. Ask at any farm supply store and they will know what you need. The pin isn't as handy as the spring loaded one the 1 3/8, but isn't that unhandy to use.

Philip..... ....1) PTO shafts are made to be cut shorter
2) PTO shafts are made with 1 1/8 joint, get an exchange PTO shaft
3) the 1-1/8 to 1-3/8 sleeve will work but is known as a weak sister
4) the N-Tractor PTO setup is always too short and needs the PTO shaft cut down
5) get the 1-3/8 PTO shaft replacement
6) wear hearing earmuff with your chipper
7) wear eyeball safety glasses with your chipper
8) wear heavy leather gloves with your chipper
Good luck..... ....Dell

THANKS FOR THE ADVICE DELL. I WOULD LIKE TO REPLACE MY 1-1/8" PTO SHAFT SPLINE WITH A 1-3/8" PTO SHAFT SPLINE, BUT THAT MEANS I CAN NO LONGER USE THE FORD BELT PULLEY TO DRIVE MY DEARBORN CORD WOOD SAW. I AM REALLY LOOKING FOR AN OPTION TO CHANGE ONE END OF THE DRIVE SHAFT BETWEEN THE TRACTOR AND CHIPPER TO 1-1/8". PHILIP.

You might be able to find a female 1-1/8 end for you PTO equipment you'll have to look around and may have to order it. Wessler in Wisconsin makes most PTOs in use/... try there web page? We use the slip on adaptor for our 9N but have rung off a couple as they are not strong enough for brush hoging. Need to replace PTO shaft anyway as the splines and gears are about gone. Good luck

I would simply replace your PTO shaft with the 1-3/8 size rather than fuss with adapters. Takes about 15 minutes to swap it out.
