I have noticed this many times. Every now and then, an interesting subject appears and I choose to read it only to find that my monitor screen needs to be 36" wide in order to read it. What causes this and can something be done to eliminate it in the future? Is my computer lacking something?, or have other people experienced this same frustration?

Arthur,

What's your monitor's screen resolution?

When a photo, or combination of photo and Kim's navigational menu that's displayed on the left, is larger than your screen resolution, it will cause your display to expand out to the right. You'll notice a scroll bar at the bottom of the page for left/right scrolling. The smaller your screen resolution, the more you'll have to scroll to the right.

how do you change the monitor resolution on win 95? The only setting I can find changes the size of the desktop display. When I increase the size, it decreases the area used on the screen

That would be it. Found in the control panel. Click on display and under the "settings" tab you find your difference screen resolutions.

Arthur, I have the same problem. I haven't been able to find a way to correct the problem either. I hope someone knows the answer and how to fix the problem

Easy if people woudl size there pictures to 480 X 680 or so then they would fit the screen and we would not have to scrol around to see them. Once a big picture is posted the rest of the posts are streched out to match the picture in the thread. Mark H.

Hi Mark. While your suggestion is spot on for images that will only be viewed here online, it doesn't work as well for those who like to print out the images and put them in a 3-ring binder, for example. I'm one of the culprits on posting images that require horizontal scrolling. I do this because the vast majority of feedback that I get from folks that I help with my scans of old documents tell me that they like to print them out and put them in a notebook. I therefore scan at the source document size, which is typically 8.5 x 11. It doesn't display as conveniently as a pic for an Ebay ad, for example, but is far more useful to the folks who are printing and saving. Sometimes, I have to "up" the resolution on a scan to overcome poor contrast condtions between the paper and the print, like when the paper is very yellowed from sitting in the back room of some dealer's place for years and years. This makes the document display even larger when viewed here.

So, I don't think there is a pat answer for this. One needs to use the size and resolution that is appropriate for what is being viewed. For example, a picture of a part that is displayed here or on Ebay, or a pic of Dave#1 testing the prototype 8N airbag, should be sized down to display without scrolling (unless you really want to see a closeup of Dave#1's bald spot with his face buried in that air bag....LOL), and have a lower resolution that is appropriate for screen viewing only. On the other hand, a full page parts list or owner's manual info that the recipients will print out and refer to in their shop is far more useful when scanned at original size and a higher resolution to enable it to be printed in a manner that can be easily read with post-40 year old eyeballs (grin). Unfortunately, when that document is shared via YT, it requires the casual viewer (one who does not intend to capture to their local PC and print) to scroll horizontally if they want to view it.

Regards..... ..... Ed

I know what you mean every once in a while I reset my camera to best for some pictures of documents and raise the dots per inch to get the fine print to sho up. I do not copy many of my pictures but if I have to I do have to retake them at better setting too. Most of the stuff I photo is only seen on a computer scree and that is why I size them that way. If you using a resolution of 800 x 600, the 640 x 480 pic will still be too big. Ya hafta take in consideration of the amount of space taken by the navigational menu on the left side of the page. 1024 x 768 resolution will work with the 640 x 480 pic.

FWIW,
Tyman

Thanks for that information. I have taken allmost 4,900 pictures with my camera and still have more to learn. Most of them have been for EBay and I want them to load fast. Mark H.
