Got that throttle linkage that the red tractor store said didn't ever exist, many thanks to Just 8n's, & was playing with Tor. Unhooked the - cable & she died. I thought that the gen. would keep I running. Professionaly rebuilt gen. new cutout, new batt. Shows around 3 amps @ idle & 10-11 amps @ full throttle. Oh yea, '44 2N, 6V pos. ground. She came with a 6V system It worked great for 15 years. Only part not new is the amp guage but it is good. This includes wires. Dell can you help me here? Someone please!!!!! At this age I can't afford to lose to much more hair, it don't grow back anymore... Got a govenor thing to but I'll attack the archives onthat one. TIA

Without getting technical the gen will not function without the bat in the circuit. It also will not function if bat totaly dead. If bat ever goes totaly dead it must be charged slightly for gen to charge. Also if gen sits around for a length of time without bat in system it may not start charging even with a good bat without polarising it. Polarise gen by a quick sparking of bat to armature but don't try this if you arn't sure where to spark it. Different gen are polarised in different ways and if you do it wrong you may destroy it and relay.

If it is charging as you say, why are you concerned that it does not keep running when you take the battery cable off? A generator does not produce clean voltage. It has spikes and dips in the output. This may be enough to confuse your coil and prevent it from sparking at the right time. Let's see what Dell says!

If I disconect the battry on my 9N it will die also. I may be wrong but I belive you need the battry to make the cutout relay work (I have one on the 9N too) Your charging seems to be good. Hey Dell am I wrong on this? Mark H.
