I have the 51 8n split and thinking about
taking the sherman out because even if I keep
the tractor I don't need it.{the sherman I mean. Problem: What do I do about the spline. Does
it go with the sherman. If it does where do I
get one to replace it. I have a 9n or 2n {can't read ser.#}. Will
the spline fit the 8n? It is a 3 speed tranny.

Thanks for any info.
Avery

I have read all the comments and have one question. "WHO" will give me $500. more for my 52' 8N because it has a Sherman O/U.
Step right up gentlemen!
That brings the price up to $3,500.
You can bid the price up you know.
It's not restored but it has the Sherman!
I won't hold my breath though!

I wholeheartedly agree with Dell and Willy on this issue; I can't figure out why you are doing this. I have a Sherman "Step-up" on my 2N and use it a lot. I bought a Sherman "Step-up/step down" last spring at a salvage yard and my son and I will install it this winter. What you are doing is like taking tilt, cruise, power locks and power windows OUT of your car. You are removing value from your tractor. It's your tractor but I would sure think this through a little more.

A..... ...its your tractor and you can do what ever you want BUT you just might reconsider you are THROWING $500 AWAY if you take the sherman aux tranny outta your tractor. I think that is dumb..... ..Dell

I don't think it's "dumb" at all, Our new good friend Willy N has shown all of us how to sell tractor parts on eBay for a good profit so Avery won't loose anything, might even make a few ! Besides, takeing out the Sherman will be one less thing to worry about wearing out and fixing. Nothing "Dumb" about his thinking at all !!!

Dells right on this one I use my Sherman all the time on different jobs. It allows you different gears for different jobs, change of traveling speeds with the engine RPM the same. I will admit I use low range most of the time. On the road High Range comes in handy!! Mark H.

The spline and shaft is part of the Sherman. You will have to put another stock longer shaft in to replace the Sherman set/up. Mark H.

I understand the sherman o/u is designed to fit 8N's spline (helical cut). Shouldn't have to do anything special. I'll gladly take it off your hands. At a nominal price, of course. And since I have an 8N, anything you need to put it together I'll replace with what I have to remove. Look back in the archives, recent, and John Smith replied with the info. Checkout John Smiths website.HTH DON TX
