Went to the red tractor store today looking for shims & a spring for the throttle on my 2N. Got the shims but wondering if there isn't spose to be a paper gasket there also??? They couldn't find the spring I was looking for. It goes on the linkage right behind the dash. Can anybody give me that part no.?? PLEASE!!! Parts service has gone down hill since I have to go through Case IH, the red tractor store. The old Ford store here knows what I'm talking about but sends me to Case/IH for Ford only parts as they call it. They call this progress. They do have another 8N on the lot but nobody knew the price, no sales men working today.

The shims are metal now, you need to measure the old paper ones if it had paper before to get metal the same thickness unless it needs to be tighter or if you changed the cup or bearing or if someone did not know how to work on it in the past you will need to try different shims to get the endplay correct then coat with a brush on gasket sealer (NOT silicone), the only spring on the 9N/2N throttle was at the front of the long rod over the head but it is not needed, all of the ball sockets on all 3 rods have springs inside (there is a short rod behind the dash).

Rusty that spring just keeps the spring loaded sockets from coming apart when you work the throttle. Any spring with a hook on each end will probley work. Just make it a little shorter then the ends it hooks onto. The ball joints are the ends. Mark H.

Hi Rusty. That throttle spring was missing on my 8N as well. I got a universal spring at NAPA and cut it to fit. Works great. HTH. Rick GA.
