i have seen references and discussion regarding a resistor response curve for the 8N front mount, but can't find and in the archives with a link that will open. can anyone provide?
thanks

All resistors have a linear response curve, don't they? Given by Ohm's law, I thought. If it has no inductance or capacitance, the response is linear, and in proportion to the current thru the resistor.

Naw....Not when they are wound with nicrome wire for a positive temperature coefficient. The idea is to get more current to the coil when the engine is cold. I have the curve here someplace curtesy of Phil (AZ) I will email it to you manana..

So that ballast "resistor", is really more than just a resistor? I did not know that. Are you sayin that they wind 'em with nichrome wire so as to change resistance with temperature? That might 'spalin why, when I put in a plain old high-power resistor, (same ohms as the orig.) it didn't work so good. Once again, I learned something today.

Larry, The other odd thing about the Ballast resonse curve is that the Current Scale does not change between ballast Resistors (icr13 or Icr23 or icr*). They all max @ 3 Amps... The Voltage/Resistance values change but the curve is the same. (This makes it very easy to calculate/design where on the curve you wish "a" system to operate).

I tried to e-mail both of you guys but neither of you have an e-mail listed. I lost all of my accounts with photo hosting services that will link.

We always refered to those that change their value of resistance due to tempature Thermisters :-)
