about 2 months ago i posted i had the blues cuz i'd just sold my good rope horse. well i thought i would start roping on my daughters mare just for something to do till i found another horse. wow, she is a scorpion! been roping calves on her for 2 months and she is really something. she's only 14 hands tall and might weigh #1000 but she gets to cattle as fast as any i've had and is really starting to stop hard and she works a TON of rope. i never have been much on mares especially as rope horses but she definitly has my respect. i think she'll be ready to start hauling by winter. a pleasant surprise!

At 14 hands, at least you don't have to worry about hurting yourself when you dismount. You might even save a second or two by being closer to the ground. Do you dismount near-side or off-side? Best little roping horse I ever had was a Three Bars-bred gelding that stood 14.2.

get off on the offside. saves a little time not having to duck under the rope. this little mare amazes me. she scores good and goes straigt to the pin and dials in. she didnt have much of a stop for a little while but now she is sticking her tail in the ground and when i go past her head down the rope she is GETTING BACK. been roping 3 or 4 times a week on her and every time i'm done i just shake my head as she gets better and better.

If I ever get my 8N and Super A restored, I'm going to buy a 16+ hand team roping gelding. I have a friend who has a pen and steers, so all I need is a horse.

LOL, mine is still in pieces too, Bob. I need about $300 in miscellaneous parts and I can start to put it together. I have been busy doing a study on the fading effects of the sun on vermillion red paint.

Each time I look at the multi-colored red paint that came from the same can, the less I care about trying to finish this beast.
