I'm about to take the hydraulic pump apart on my 8N an and give it a good cleaning and inspection. I was wondering what you all use for gasket sealer for the pump chambers and also where the pump base mounts to the tractor. With the high pressure in the pump itself and also at the hole where the fluid passes from the pump base on its way to the top cylinder I didn't want to have any internal leaks. I didn't know if any of you had any thoughts or preferences for a gasket sealer. I usually Permatex or silicone to seal gaskets. Any cautions or recomendation would be greatly appreciated. Thanks everyone.

Ford used gaskets that did not need sealer (as instructed at the dealer training for the 9N tractor) but as old as the tractors are there are exceptions now like on the governor housings that warp, metal shims that take the place of old paper gaskets and metal head gaskets, if sealer is needed use a brush on liquid sealer like aviation permatex, never use silicone around a hydraulic system because the squeezed out silicone can block holes up, if your pump housing is warped use 2 mounting gaskets.

I used the paper gaskets that were part of a set and sprayed a little Permatex "High Tack" form a gasket.
