I have one of the new hard rubber backup washers for the NAA lift piston. I noticed that both sides of the washer are not the same. One side is flat and the other side has sort of a lip on both the inside and outside edge. The question is, which way do the lips point?? It seems to me that the lips should point towards the rubber o-ring, this would backup the o-ring with a more or less curved surface the shape of the o-ring and the flat side would be against the piston ring groove. Does this sound right??? I'd hate to put it in the wrong way. Thanks for your help

Rick..... ..... Ya sure your NAA hydraulic piston backup ring is hard rubber?????

Last I heard, they were hard leather and need to be soaked in hotwater for a time (15 mins boiled). If really rubber, soaking in hot water won't hurt it and if leather soaking will allow you to stretch it over the piston. Its gotta be water not oil..... .....Dell

Scott.....do you sell the hard rubber backing ring? Is it a better idea from N/H or it just a cheaper replacement for the leather? don

If the washer is not hard rubber then it's plastic or something similar. It's the new type that the FNH dealers now sell. I also have a brand new leather one and the only thing they have in common is the are both round. Thanks for the reply Dell.

If I understand you one side of the ring is concave and the other is flat. If so the concave side goes against the o-ring and the flat side goes against the piston. The backup ring goes on the oposite side of the o-ring that the oil pressure is on. Be sure to grease the o-rings and to not roll them in the grove keep them straight.
