Hi All. Well, after being a tire-kicker and a well-wisher for about two years, I finally found me another tractor to supplement my 8N. My wife and I have toured the state of Georgia looking at used tractors for sale. In the last two years I bet I have looked at 25 tractors that were high priced and in fair to poor condition (need tires, brakes, etc…). I was not in a hurry to buy another tractor because I’ve got my 49 8N (that I restored about two years ago). My patience has paid off. I wound up paying about $2000 more dollars than my target price but I bought an exceptional 1986 Ford 2310. It has a 3-cylinder diesel engine, with power steering, differential lock, live lift and PTO (two stage clutch), a ROP system (roll bar) and it is about 35 HP. It has 475 hours on the proof meter and the paint looks exceptional (never been repainted). It is as close to a brand new tractor as you can get. I got so frustrated looking at used tractors I actually thought about buying a new one.

I looked at a 1983 model 2310 several days ago at a JD dealership and asked for comments about the 2310 on this board. The JD dealer was asking $6350 for the unit they had. I liked the size and feel of the 2310. I thought about it a day or so and called the JD dealer and offered him $6000 to deliver it to my place. They said the bottom dollar was $6250 delivered and $6150 if I come and get it. It needed some work but it ran good and had about 1100 hours on it. I decided to wait a few days until the state farmers bulletin came out. Many of the tractors I looked at were listed for sale in the market bulletin. When I got the market bulletin in the mail I found an ad for a 1986 Ford 2310 with 475 hours. It had been sheltered and taken very good care of. The man said it had 25 hours on it when he bought it. He bush hogged about four acres with it. I asked him if he would hold it for me until the next day so I could make arrangements to get a trailer and a cashiers check and drive up to his place. After logging many miles looking at used tractors I finally found what I was looking for. I love it. I actually wanted a Ford 2000 or 3000 but the prices were high and the condition was not usually that good. I have had the 2310 since Thursday and have already had 3 people wanting to buy my 8N and one person wanting the 2310. Sorry for the long post. I just wanted to share some of my joy with all you great folks on this great N board. Many of my posts never get a response on the Ford board. Thanks for listening. Rick Ga.

Rick: congragulations on the new machine. Question for you, what is the source for the farm bulletin. Georgia farm bulletin. I live just out from Chattanooga and can relate to the hunt. The last tractor I actively used was an NAA in '83 rebuilding the place after 12" rain in 2 hours, no joke. I got an 8n in June a guy brought back from Meridian, It sat for 10 years cause the owner couldn't get the starter in or out. I thought I knew what I was looking at when I got it. You know, an 8N that some guy took care of and used and let set in the weather. The molasses on the dipstick could have been an indicator, so could both weld repaired lift arms. The hood is in good shape and he was thoughtful enough to blow a head gasket so the water passages didn't corrode. And he didn't let the battery boil over much to eat its seat. Soon as we get a lift together, the rebuilt engine is going back in with fresh paint on the front end and new steering and front wheel bearings. When I load up the round bale my helper moved last time with a wheelbarrow, I'll have the front wheel weights on that the Ups guy who goes past my route had to carry here. The other 3 drivers left them at the terminal. All that probably after I rebuild the hydraulics. Good knowledge this afternoon on doing that. Thanks very much, Dell and Don. Enjoy the new machine, Rick, my wife is cooling the simmer she got with the only tractor we have and need. Prentice

Hi Prentice. The Ga. Market Bulletin is a weekly publication produced by the Ga. Dept. of Ag. The address is Market Bulleitn, Ga. Dept. of Ag. 19 Martin Kuther King Jr. Drive Atlanta, Ga. 30334.
(404)656-3722.

I really didn't need another tractor. I basically just wanted to up-grade, although the 8N is a great machine. I have two pick-up trucks. Now I have two farm tractors and I love both of them. Rick Ga.

If I ever get my 8N finished, I'm going looking for a tractor about like you described. I have a love/hate thing going with the 8N. My nostalgia often overwhelms my practicality, but I'd love to have a more powerful tractor with PS, Live PTO and hydraulics, diff lock, etc. Enjoy!

After Driving my Massey 135 for a while I pulled the front tires to take them to town to have the new ones put on for $215.00 tax include for 12 ply rated ones. Well anyway since the Massey was on jack stands I took the TO-30 home, man what a difference and I used to love that Ferguson but the Massey has spoiled me with the ride and power steering! I felt like I was driving a tank! Such a differents between the two! Mark H.
