This is another handy tool for removing broken off taps. It works great if you run the tap in a little and out a little. When the tap snaps off insert the 4 feet onto the flutes of the tap. I did not have a broken tap so in my pic the tool is on the wrong end of the tap. Before you remove tap you want to slide the collar down as close to the tap as you can get it. Then spin the tap out. This is another tool that Snap On can get for you. For about $45.

Those are Ok as long as the tap isn't jammed otherwise you just end up twisting the extractor.

And then you start breaking the tap up with a punch and digging out the small pieces. A good thing to do is use tapping fluid, the thin stuff that has a sweet smell, Chroma tap I think. I have had taps stuck, poured that in and they could be worked free with out breaking.
