Just wondered if any of you have had any experience with the selecto speed transmission? My neighbor, (the last of the old time mechanics) is putting together an 801 for me with a loader on it, I trust his work and the engine etc, but I have never run a tranny of this sort. Any thoughts? Good or bad??
Thanx
Ron

Hi Ron, Probably the reason for the carmundgy, grumpy old mechanic is his annoyance and memories of working on the SOS transmissions. When they were working good they were perfect, when they had problems they were miserable and today not many mechanic's would be available with the patience to get involved with rebuilding. The reason for saying this is been there got the T shirt and ball hat. Cheers, Murray

All I have ever heard is that when they work, they are great, but when they break, it costs a lot to get them fixed. Years ago, a guy that I worked with hard one on his tractor loader and it worked very well. But I don't know how long it kept working. Does your mechanic/friend know how to work on the SOS if it breaks?

Assuming you are already committed to the tractor with Select O Speed might want to print out the site below for troubleshooting. A quick look should tell you why it takes a mech like the one you describe to fool with these.

Your mileage may vary
