First off, I'm really bummed that I missed the big shin-dig on Saturday, just too much other stuff goin' on.
Secondly, I got some good news and some bad news;
The good news is... I found out why I've got a goose-egg for compression on #1.
The bad news is... I found out why I've got a goose-egg for compression on #1.
I threw a rod :-(. A ray of sunshine though, didn't seem to do any MAJOR damage to the block and the sleeves all look REAL good. I've got a burnt exhaust valve in #2 (gotta replace that, too).

So, I'm in the process of tearing her apart.

Anybody run into a kingpin bolt that just refuses to budge?

More to follow...

Unless you're going to replace the bushing, swing the whole front axle by unbolting the front support. Might be easier to mess with after. HTH

I was planning on replacing the bushing (there's a lot of slop in the front end and I think that this is some of it) and, in my mind, it'd probably be easier to remove that bolt before removing the axle, but I could be wrong....

I'd soak it in a combo of MMO and your favorite penetrant. Do it several times each day and tap on it to set up the vibrations necessary for the penetrant to do it's work and carry in the MMO too.

Or some folks use the fire wrench.

If your talking about the bushing that your front axle pivots on,I picked up another 48 8N the other day cheap and noticed that someone had welded the bushing in place.They ran a bead to attach the bushing to the mounting bracket that bolts to the motor.Had trouble seeing it at first because it was behind the axle.Also if you can find a product called Aerokroil in a spray can it is the best thing since shirt pockets for freeing up rusted parts. Hope this helps you
