I just finished rebuilding the engine on my 51 8N.It runs great but I noticed it seems to be leaking oil from the front seal.Anybody ever tried any of these additives to stop leaks? If so do they seem to work? Any other suggestions?
Thanks
Ole

I never put much faith in bottled miracle fixes. Front seal leaks are normally caused by worn front crank pulley. They cost about $40 and lots of work to install, how bad is the leak?

I replaced the front pulley as part of the rebuild because the old one had a groove worn in it.Any other thoughts?

Afraid not. You should have solved it with the new pulley. The seal must be distorted when you put the pan on. It is a pain to remove the pan abut that is what you will likely have to do! May be easier since parts are new. If the hood is not on, it might be easier to just split it and start over! I usually leave the hood off and run them for awhile after assembly. That way i retorque the head which always loosens up when run and look for leaks, etc that I can fix easier with the hood off..
