Gold particles in the hydraulic fluid?????

After I drained the hydraulic fluid from my 49 8N and was emptying the drain pan I could see many small gold colored particles in the fluid in the bottom of the drain pan. I'm kinda guessing it was brass. I Know the cam blocks and and bushings in my pump appear to be brass or some other gold metal. The question is, what other parts are gold colored that the hydraulic fluid lubricates. I've only been into the pump so I don't know if the transmission or rear end have this type of material also. The cam blocks did show a little wear where they contact the scotch yokes but how do you know what is too much? Is there a specified clearance between the cam blocks and the scotch yokes?? I could see if the clearance was too large the pistons wouldn't travel their full stroke. Thanks for any answers you may have.

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong but if my memory serves me right the thrust washers behind the differential side gears are brass too and take a beating if the tractor does a lot of plowing or one tire is of a different size in diameter etc.

In the machine shops we refer to it as bearing bronze...it's as hard as steel but something about the coefficient of friction is different. Brass would be too soft. Brass is copper and zinc and bronze is copper and tin. Brass used for corrosion resistance...bronze used for bearing material. If it were my tractor...I would be mining for the gold. I have taken pumps apart and found wear and breaks in the Brass parts. The only brass parts I have found are the pump bushings and cam blocks. You should be able to tell by your eyes if these parts have wear on them by looking for smooth appearance on them, even surface and no un/even marks. If they have any of the above I would change them out befor damage is done. If you are having particals of brass showing up in the fluid some part of the brass is being worn. Mark H.
