On my 9n I have what the previous owner called a 'road gear' which is engaged by a lever on the right side. I use the 'n' only for 'hoggin' and can't really tell for sure whether I'm in the supposedly faster road gear or not. It seems the speeds pretty much the same whether the lever is pushed up/forward or down/backward. So without the infamous decal to tell me which way the road gear lever should be pushed for bushhogging, I really don't know whether to leave it forward or pull it back. 'Preciate' any info. thanks..Ron

Sorry..don't know what I was thinking. From the seated position, the lever is on the "left". Not the right as I said in my original question. Thanks for all of the help but I need more....Ron

Sounds like a Hupp Auxilliary Transmission (lever on right side) be careful, since the overdrive trannys affect PTO speed.

You might do an archive search from Hupp Transmissions in the archives.

Take a look a John Smith's web site. You might have a rare F&T overdrive. I stumbled onto one last year. It works and I bought the tractor. I also have two Hupps. They are quite different.
The Hupp lever in standard range is horizontal and parallel to the top of the transmission. The F&T is verticle and moves forward and back.
