Hello all while I was hogging the other day i noticed upon lifting my mower that the hydraulic lift has developed a noise, grind something. The noise is rythmatic almost like a rod knock in a engine. Any ideas? And yes the fluid is the correct spec and level. Thanks

I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. ITS FROM WEAR OF THE HYDRO PUMP. PURCHASED A REBUILD KIT FROM DONS
AND THE NOISE IS GONE.

Hi Ron. I don’t know about a grinding noise but my 49 8N has made a knocking noise in the lift ever since I have owned it (26 years). The heavier the implement the louder the noise. From the information I have gathered over the years the noise is due to ware on the hydraulic pump. I have been told it will not hurt a thing. My lift works too good to worry about rebuilding the pump because of the noise. A couple of years ago I honed my lift cylinder and installed an NAA O-ring and replaced the relief valve. That strengthened my lift a lot and it holds for hours. But the knocking noise is still there. (check the archives) HTH. RickGa.

What kind of tractor do you have? (9N-2N-8N-Naa)I have a 2N and it sounds like what mine sounds like when it gets low on fluid. I am sure you have already checked that? What part of Ohio are you from? I am from Ross County. Good luck with your problem. I had to rebuild my hydrolics, and it was not really all that bad to do.--Keith
