Ok one more question my 41 9N's amp meter reads just 2 notches of positive charge at an idle but as the rpms increase the charge moves to the negetive side. ( way on the negetive side) Any ideas I have not checked anything yet and the belt is tight. And the cables all seam fine also. thanks

Sounds like the wire through the ampmeter loop is backwards. If you have lights, turn them on and notice if they get brighter when the engine is reved. Put a meter across the battery terminals and note voltage. Rev the engine and note the voltage. Lights brighter or voltage goes up, your generator is working.

Ray had all the right answers for you. I would have only one question for you. You are connected as a Positive Ground 6v System?

Just remember to turn off the lights! I was mowing yesterday, came in for supper, went back out, and she wouldn't start. Thought the starter was bound up, so I pulled it out. Very loose. Went back to the house and got a meter...then saw the light switch was on, and the battery was dead. DUH! Check simple stuff first!!

YUP, sounds like the ammeter is wired backwards.
