its been awhile since i've posted a message here and i have two problems. picked up another 8n but the engine is shot.no power and smokes so bad that it could be used for bug control.so what do ya think? buy a new engine or rebuild? the other thing is fluid leakeing into rear brake drum. never fooled with rear axel. is there a gasket that could go bad and what do i have to do to repair it? picked up the 8n up dirt cheap and puting money into it is no biggie. love my other one with dearborn loader on it.moved a lot of dirt and brush this summer.wouldnt trade it for a brand new one. any suggestions would be welcomed.thanks in advance

Definately rebuild the one you have unless the crank is ruined. A good shop can put in a kit relatively cheaply that makes it like new. The brakes are leaking lube past the worn out seals in the differential. They all do. Check the hubs, they are likely worn out too. YOu will need to replace the seals and maybe the hubs and adjust the bearing preload by shimming the axles and then clean up the brakes best you can. You can do all this, it is relatively easy to do. The seals will cost you about $10 ea and the hubs are $55 ea. The engine overhaul will run $600 to $800 at a shop.
