Could you please help me out if you can, Could you please tell me what a compleat rear end is worth that looks new,it is in a tractor that was burned in a barn fire. New to this tractor thing, never owned one and don't want to get ripped off. Please help if you can. I'm talking about the whole Differential Assembly I guess, and I'll get the Pinion also. Also I can get the whole Tractor from the transmission back (the transmission Bell housing is busted but the gears and all where put in 3 months before it burnt). The wheels and tires or no good but the Hydraulic Pump and all is supposed to be good, and the axles and all are intact as well as the rear end. My ring gear sheared all 12 rivets that hold the ring gear to the Differential Case Half.
And buggered up two teeth on the ring gear. And the Ring Gear rub against the PTO Shaft and Scared it some, this burnt tractor has one in it also. So if you can, a price on the whole Differential/Rear End,,, intact with all gears/and Case together.??? And then a Price from the transmission back as I described??? I know I'm asking a lot, and Know it would be hard with out seeing it, but please the best you can. If you all could help me with this,it will be very appreciated,,,Thanks in advance,Richard

Willy-N & Richard WY gave good advice. You don't know how hot that fire was, it can and most probably did change the hardness on the parts.
He already got paid by the ins. company and your taking the chance. So keep it low.

That pump might have to be rebuilt due to the heat. The rear end should be good but the bears might have got real hot in that fire and removed some hardness from them. Transmissions and rear ends go for around 150.00+ each removed and in good shape and shipping is around 60.00 to 75.00 depending where you get them from. I would offer him 150.00 to 175.00 for the works and take a chance everything is OK. Mark H.

I would consider making the man an offer of $150 or so for the whole mess. Part out what is good and take what you need. That may seem low, but it is a starting price. To me the gears are worth more out of the tractor cause somebody had to put some labor into it to get them out.

2 years ago the center housing and differential was going for around $700 for the various components at Central Tractor, transmission around $700-800. Plus shipping. This is probably a case where the parts are worth more than the whole. I just compared prices at Wenger's and Tractor Barn and Strojny and they all fall in that range. Check with Richie McGoo or Willy-N. They're both parting out some late 8N's.

I think I would offer $ 200 and go from there, after all who wants a burned up old 8 N , depends on how bad you need the parts and how much heat damage was done. The heat could have warped the parts you need , hard to say .
