A friend of mine who does some serious farming read up on his Almanac. Told me that in years past, when it's been this hot all summer (and in lower Michigan, it has been), and when the leaves are starting to drop early (they are), we're gonna get some serious BLIZZARDS this winter.

Get the heater cabs ready, get the calcium in the tires, and pull out the tire chains!

Winter? You guys in Southern Mich. Texas etc don't know what winter is all about. Come on up to Gods Country in the northern part of the Upper Peninsula along the Lake Superior Watershed and you'll be able to enjoy winter.None of that tough sledding you have for a couple of weeks a year. We have good sledding normally for 5-7 months, but the "Ole" 9N handles it pretty good, most of the time, with a little help from the Yooper Scoopers. Our only tough sledding occures during the months of June through October. We received over 300 inches last winter and it realy wasn't a bad winter. Hated to see it end, because then we couldn't Snow Shoe Rabbit hunt any more. Good luck this winter. Ron

Wouldn't suprise me if winter came early. Down here in Texas, it has been the mildest and wettest summer I think I have ever seen. Regardless, I'ld be suprised if we got frost before November.

We're getting migratory warblers passing through here a couple of weeks earlier than usual as well. Had some yellow throated vireos pass through yesterday and either a hermit thrush or veery as well. Been seeing some geese heading south too but a lot of them seem to stay all year now.

Dropped a car up above Big Sky Ski resort north of Yellowstone Park, south of Bozeman, Mt. On Friday of last week. Got snowed on around nine thousand feet of elevation. Didn't stick but it was for sure snow.

Your mileage may vary

I've also noticed that in N. Ill. the soybeans are starting to turn colors. Just a little earlier than normal.
