While driving to work this morning, I heard something on the radio that was upsetting. The topic was how America was percieved around the world. Part of the discussion mentioned that in the past year(since 9/11/01), almost 70% of the new born males in Nigeria had been named "Osama".If my memory serves me correctly,the TFODB (Tractors For Our Daily Bread) program was established for the purpose of sending refurbished donated 8N's to Nigeria to help that nation teach their people to feed themselves better by using tractors rather than oxen. Please correct me if I am mistaken about that program. What am I missing here? We donate & send loved & cherished pieces of our American Heritage to a nation of people who HATE us! I think we should not let another piece of American History leave this country bound for a land that will not respect it! Apologies for the long post and forgive me if I've offended anyone!

Hey Arthur. Two things about Nigeria, specifically..... ...

(1) >> almost 70% of the new born males in Nigeria had been named "Osama". << 60% of that 70% will never live long enough to be a threat to us;

(2) The Nigerians do pay us back by bringing over gangs of very highly trained financial con artists, who perpetrate a lot of the identity fraud in this country and commit other financial scams. Talk to a Secret Service agent sometime and ask about the Nigerians....just be prepared to get a real earful.

Regards..... ..... Ed

Read foreign newspapers!! The news in USA is not the whole picture. (This isn't a knock on this country, as it is still the best deal anywhere, so don't flame me!) However, the world perceives stuff in a different fashion than our news sources can tell us. Go to the link that I have provided, check out "international news", and select the area you are interested in and read the papers for that country/area. It will "open your eyes"! Again, I Love America! Just hate to be told how to think!!

Arthur you say that the country hates us. we give things to people who hate us. we give our old 8n's to countries thinking we are helping them and they will love us and respect us. we don't buy love respect or support. you cant say that old 8n's will fix decades of arrogant foreign policies that we ignorantly stepped into thinking we will protect our oil interests and keep our old 8n's running and make friends along the way. the problem is a lot deeper than you think when we step into those countries with our big guns to manipulate governments businesses and cultures to protect out interests at home. we have a big role in the problem of hate toward us. just to think that they hate for no reason that the people just got up one morning and said i will hate the usa only sticks our heads deeper in the sand that we share resonsbiliy for. i hate terrorism and bin laden and i cried for children and parents who loved their father or mother one year ago. i worry now that bliss is over and we need to fight for our country but i shudder when i hear the war drums beating from guys like dick cheney and rumsfeld. poor bush he is listening to those guys who have a 1960 and 1950 war drum mentality but we are not fixing why countries hates us. richard

First comment. Capitalize USA from now on, or pay dearly.

As far as your post: All countries look out for number one. America was not ever a imperialistic nation. We were just lacing up our boots when the European powers trampled Africa, Asia, and most of the known world and established colonies. Yes, America has entered into failed policies in many of these countries. But the policies we have established have been largely partnership based. Yes, we want something in return, but we are not colonizing, and in most cases, have paid dearly to prop up the partnership. For the overwhelming vast majority of these countries, they have benefited both economically and socially through dealing with the USA much more than the benefit America received. You have never heard of America invading another country, stripping its wealth, and embarking on a genocidal program. Yet, these countries that hate us have been doing this to anyone they can conquer. Which is largely the other peanut nations which hate us. America is one of the most morally astute countries in the world, regardless of what you see on prime time sit-coms. Ever see European or Oriental television, hoo boy? What about the exploding AIDS epidemic in Africa and Moslem countries (you don't catch it from shaking hands or drinking out of the same river)? Fact is, these people want to see America fail for three reasons, ranked from least to most:
1) A tribal mentality: We must kill all others around so there is more for us;
2) A crusade: America is prodominently Christian, therefore we Moslems must conquer and convert; and most importantly,
3) It's not fair: Classic case of the "have nots" hating the "haves", reguardless of how hard the "haves" worked to earn what is theirs.
Open your eyes Richard, think for yourself, stop riding the tailcoats of the loud mouthed, underinformed, traitorous naysayers who are barking for attention.

Hi Richard.

>> but we are not fixing why countries hates us <<

And how do you propose that we fix this situation?

And, why should we even care that the Nigerians hate us, or even the Europeans, for that matter? I don't understand why some people are so concerned with having other countries not like us, or not agree with us. The heck with the N's we are wasting on Africa. What about all the lives we lost keeping Europe free, and now they won't stand with us when we have been attacked.

I thank God every day that Clinton and Gore are not in office. Those two sissy-boys would have been over in Afghanistan, apologizing to Osama for making him mad enough to murder 3,000 innocent people last year.

Trying to understand, be sensitive to, or appease these people is like trying to kiss a cobra.

Pretty sick of people whining about 'We Have To Face Why They Hate Us'...get Real...they do not hate us...they are jealous of us and what we have...Freedom and toys and a good lifestyle...that is it...stop trying to put your guilt feelings about 'I'm Not Worthy' as the reason that third world nations hate us...We can show them how to feed their people and prosper as nations...and the second we leave they run it into the ground...If the Saudis didn't have Americans to show them how to pull the oil from the ground (and then pay them for it), they would still be slogging through the sand looking for some shade...The US is the ONLY nation in history that after they vanquish their enemies they rebuild the economy and then return power to the 'conquered' country...so please don't tell me they hate us because of our 'war drum'...

Nicely said. They are jealous of what we have achieved in so short a time with the simple concept of Freedom.

Exactly Mike! The one thing the lib's never will face or admit is that, if you go back through history to any leadership of any country that gained power through terrorism, the resulting regime has always been a totalitarian one. They call themselves "freedom fighters", etc., but once they gain power you always end up with a few people subjecting the entire country to their ways. The closest example of this to us is Cuba. "Ok Juan, now that I've 'liberated' you and made you free, you only get telephone usage for one hour each day, electricity for two hours each day....but oh yeah, since I'm the leader of the country, I get it 7-24."

Sure makes me want to be "freed" by one of these clowns.

Hi Art,
I'm with you and the other guys.
I am really non agressive and beleve in live and let live, however, this world has gone too far. The other folks are not letting us alone, at least, as far as I know. I will be the first to admit that us lay people don't know beans about the overall picture. Russia, China, etc. make a big difference in who and when you drop a bomb.
I only have this to say, I feel a lot better with Bush, than I did with Clinton. Bush is a new kid on the block, but pretty straight. Clinton was a, no comment. What the h3ll do we do now?????
