Recently I changed out the points and condensor on my '52 8N...it ran fine for a week or two, then yesterday while doing light mowing it started missing and quit...we checked the points and they were completely closed and the inner contact arm was raised higher than the outer one by about 1/16 inch. The points were also burned pretty bad.....could I have been sold the wrong points and what would make them close up and move up like that? Any help would be appreciated....

You say the inner arm was higher than the outer one. Do you have the washer and tiny cotter pin through the pivot post to hold it down?

There are some inferior points on the market. A lot of guys like Blue Streak, which I think NAPA carries. You might want to put a small drop of loctite on the screws that hold the points to the breaker plate.

Ron..... ..what BG sez..... ..and also be aware that the #8 X 3/16 plated brass points screws actually wear and loose their thread grip but will look kinda OK. I'd suggest replacing them. DON'T USE 1/4" screws. mucks up your centrifical advance weights under the points plate..... ...Dell
