The ammeter on my 50 8N flutuates wildly. On startup, it shows steady positive, once you rev her up, it starts fluctuating from -0- to the high end of the scale. The fan belt is new and properly adjusted, original 6 volt configuration and the battery seems to be staying charged. Is this a case of since it ain't broke....? but I kinda can't help myself.

Thoughts appreciated...

I haven't run it enough to know whether I'm boiling water....it was a little low when I bought it....

Can I get generator brushes at an auto parts store, or are they a Don B order?

Thanks for the help...

Pat..... ...something it "BROKE" and it need fixing before it gets more expensive.

You have eather a bad brush in your generator OR you have a bad voltage regulator.

Brushes are cheep ($3) and eazy, I'd start there. But I'd also consider replaceing the V/R ($25). Don't forget to re-polarize your V/R-generator..... ..... ...Dell

Sounds like a bad voltage regulator. See if you are cooking water out of the battery.
