I have the steering box all apart. The problem was the "thrust" bearing. You all were right. Now everything else looks great. What should I, preventativly, go ahead and replace. I do NOT want to do it a second time.

I know I will be doing the seals and that bearing. I see people say use grease while others say 50/50 grease/90w while the book says 90w. What is the winner and why?

THanks for ALL the help,
Ron Gibson

90 wt gear lube is just more prone to leak, that's all. If your seals are good, go with that and you will be happy. That's what the manual calls for. On the other hand, if you have some leaks, and you don't want to tear into it, consider using grease. Others may have differing opinions, but I think that's what it comes down to.

Ron..... ...what Phil said..... ...I used 140wt outboard motor lower gearbox lube. I didn't like the way chassis greese got squeezed out of contact with moving parts..... ....Dell
