What is the best size disk to put behind a 2N? After the fire this summer that got way to close to my 120 year old barn I would like to keep a better fire line around my place & screw the farmer that insists on planting wheat right up to my barn. What size do most of you N'ers use? Any & all adise will be app. TIA Rusty 2N

My father gave me an old 6' dual ganged disk, and it has a ford tag on it dated 1952... ( and 2 digit serial number )I'm guessing that is about the size for our N machines.

I still use it, behind my 1920.

Rusty, I run an 8' tandem disc. It's as old as the hills and the amount it's cutting is determined by how long you pulled on the rope controlled adjustment (I told you it was old). My 8N has no problems pulling it even at it's greatest angle, and I have added extra weight to the discer. It's not heavy enough to cut sod or anything, but for keeping a fire break black I think it would be excellent. I have about 4 acres of dirt that I keep black. Once or twice a year I have to work it deep with the cultivator, but after that I use the discer to keep it black.

Rusty, One summer we had fire threats here, so I first mowed and plowed a fire break, then I kept an old 2 section disc in the break and when ever I saw too much new growth, or the ground started to harden too much, I just hooked up to it and tore it up again. I just left it in the break all summer. Ron

If the roots are not to bad I use my rear blade on a angle and just keep going over it till it cuts into the sod, then I blade it. If you had a Ripper you could dig it up some then grade it with a blade to bare dirt. Mark H.

Rusty..... .....If your talking about a 3-point hydraulic lift fixed "X" frame disc. What ever cat-1 6 footer you can get. Mostly its a weight kinda thing, 500# or so is all your 3-point will lift.

I have an old rusty 8' adjustable angle, 2 section, drag-behind disc that my 8N has no trouble pulling even with added weight to cut deeper. It mostly bounces across the topps of all my rocks (grin)..... ...Dell
