I've just change the oil in my 9N which was running fine before. Now it chugs to start but will not turn over.
Sounds like low compression. Has a new carb, plugs, coil, oil filter.
Any suggestions???

Al

Al,
Have you drained your carb? Sounds like water to me. Maybe throw some methyl alcohol in the tank.

What things did you do differently before it would not start. Was it just the oil change or did you also replace/overhaul the carb, plugs, etc.. How long since it last ran fine. After a cold front ? An oil change would have no influence on starting or running. I'm not trying to be a smart@$$, but a more detailed description of what all was done before and after would help a lot in helping with suggestions.

This is how it went... I brought it into the garage to get it ready for winter.. Drained the oil from the bottom... drained the filter oil. and removed the filter... Waited a few days .. bought new oil, and filter and replaced. I did notice that the bolt was missing from the filter after starting once but put it back in and added oil to the filter canister. Still pops but doesn't want to start.

I agree with the other comments you received. I'd just make sure your battery was fully charged and all connections were clean and tight. Then I'd check each plug, dry them off and try again. Let us know how you make out.

Just changing the oil wont cause it not to start. Start with the basics, fuel, spark, compression.

Well I know it's getting fuel cause it's running out the carb. I know it's getting spark cause it's chugging trying to start. The compression thing has be worried but it ran great before.
any other ideas?
Al

Maybe you fouled your plugs by over choking?

Try a new set, or if you are cheeep like me, heat the tips up with a propane torch until they are a dull orange. This will burn off the fouling. Let them cool some before installing, and use neverseize on the threads. Don't get the never seize on the electrode or you will foul the plug again.
