Before I start, this is a working tractor.

The original oil filter can has been beat up pretty bad along with someone useing pliers on all the oil line connections.

While I am there replacing lines and cleaning everything up I was considering replacing the canister style filter with a spin on conversion.

Anyone have any experience with these? Good or Bad?

This is strictly for ease and conveniece.

Thanks

Ron (8n509270)

Ron, look in the link below and phone them. You can get the kit for the Ford FL1 filter.

Dave-
If that's the same unit as I have on my SB Ford, the adapter threads onto the block where the original spin-on filter went and ports the oil inlet and outlet to female NPT sockets. From there you run hoses to a remote filter. Unless I'm missing something (wouldn't be the first time !) since the inlet/outlets on the tractor are some distance apart and there isn't anything to thread the adapter on, I don't think it would work.
However, you could buy a canister filter with bracket from them and adapt it's ports from NPT to tube fittings. Then you just find a convienient spot to mount the canister, bend some steel tube and connect it up.

This is a photo of the Perma Cool filter adapter I got from Jeg. It takes the FL1 filter the same as the engine. I got tired of hunting for filters for the M&W turbo on Big Blue when I changed oil. I modified the bracket to mount it. It does have 2 mounting holes on it. The oil comes from a fitting on the bell housing (the braided steel line) and goes on to the turbo after the filter. The M&W filters were costing me $12 and I figure it paid for itself after 3 oil changes. FL1 filters can be bought at Wall Mart a lot cheaper and I don't have to drive 25 miles to get them. Give Jag a phone call they can help you.

Dave- I see it now-you screw the adapter onto the filter instead of the block-great idea!

I think that is what Ron was looking for to replace the original filter canister. It would work good but not be original. Probably use a piece of Z bar stock to bolt to old filter bolt holes in the block and bolt the adapter to the other leg of the z bar.

I installed one on an old dodge truck just last week. Bought it at a local auto supply dealer for $38 cdn. As Dell pointed out, you will have to make your own mounting bracket.

Ron, I have no experience with them but if you find out let me know, I would do it in a heart beat but I have never found a kit to do it. Thanx Ron

Ron..... ...yeah, I considered it, just never got around tuitt. There are universal PH-8A spinon kits available but you need to make your own adaptor bracket to fit. Your call..... ...Dell
