The 51 8n I just got had a bad head gasket. I relaced it and it would over heat within a few minutes. Now I know why! I spent most of the day rodding out the radiator and resoldering. What a difference it made! It runs cool as a cucumber now.

A plugged radiator has ruined a lot of good engines over the years .

Larry, I used plumbers solder and paste flux. It was NOT the newer leads free stuff. We can still buy the real stuff here as long as you don't use it for plumbing. Allen

Yes, I guess that would have stopped the flow. Thanks for posting the pictures they are worth a thousand words. I think some people may have questioned my advise about plugged radiators. Dave OH

Dave, I don't know what your radiator advice was but I think after seeing the insides of this one everybody with an older radiator should have them serviced or replaced. I am going to check my other two right away. Allen (;^)

Works good to blast water inside them and wash them out once and a while to help keep them clean too. Mark H.

You should have seen some of the "Cold" water pumps they opened up at work. Calcium and Lime deposits are worse in a "Hot" water system.
Some well water is almost crunchy.
