My wife reluctantly let me buy a (new) 8N on Friday from coworker's brother--thanks, Dear! It's a '50 model, still 6-volt (won't hold that against it--just kidding!), really straight, with a new battery, voltage reg., cables, etc. It also came with a Woods L59 belly mower that I'm going to mount on the 2N to replace the Allis 'C' I currently use (wanna buy it?). What I want to know is, does anyone use a similar set-up? Is it easy to remove if you want to use the 3-point for other things? Just curious....

Ron

Yeah, I really can't justify keeping three tractors (at least to my wife). It's been a good tractor, but I really like the Ns better. Why, you interested?

I have a '51 8N with a 5-foot Woods belly mower. Taking it off is more trouble than it's worth -- for me, at least three hours by the time I put the lift arms, etc., back on, and then another three hours to remount the mower later (or 12.37 hours and three replacement belts @ $80 each if you've misplaced your belt diagram!). My advice: A belly-mower tractor should be reserved for lawn mowing. I have a '52 8N for non-mowing and brush-hogging tasks.

Thanks, Jim!

I may just sell the belly mower and get a 3-point finishing mower instead. I saw one at the local Farm King for $500.

I had a Cub with a belly mower and a snowplow and they were bears to change back and forth. It looked straight forward but a good 2 hours to remove and anther 2 to install !!! This is why they had A cultivating tractor given the time invovled it was cheaper to have a second machine. As to using the 3Pt you would have to chain up the mower deck then diconect the puley from the PTO shaft. So you can do it but what were your plans? You won't have the clearnce you did without the mower. Good Luck.
