Hi All. I finally got my free web space from my local ISP (took about two weeks). Now, I need to know what is the best/easiest FTP software to use to upload my files/pictures of my tractors so I can share my pic’s on the N board. I must admit I am not a computer expert. However, I do know that I need a software program to do this. What do you folks suggest? Thanks. Rick H. Ga. (formerly Rick Ga. but someone over on the Ford board started using the same name and I didn’t want to get confused with someone else.)

I use WS_FTP LE (lite)...it is the free version of the one used by bg and ED-IL.
Simple as highlight and click the arrow...

Hey Rick. If you are using Windows and Internet Explorer (IE), you can use IE. Go to your FTP site with IE, and use Windows Copy and Paste to copy files from your local hard drive to your FTP folder(s). To create new folders at the FTP site, right click your mouse, choose New, then choose Folder, and type in the folder name.

Hope this helps..... ..... .Ed

Where exactly do you 'paste' the file once it is copied to your clipboard from the HD?

What version of IE? I am using 5.00 and have never been able to make it do what you are describing.

I also thought that you needed to 'ID' in order to add or delete from an FTP...At least I have to, otherwise anyone could willy-nilly mess with my files...

I've been doing it that way since IE 5.5.

(1) Open Internet Explorer and enter the URL of the FTP site in the Address box. Leave that window open once you log in.

(2) Open Windows Explorer and open the folder on your hard drive where the files that you want to copy are located. Highlight those files, right click and choose Copy.

(3) Alt-Tab back to the FTP Internet Explorer window, place your cursor inside the file part of the window, right click your mouse and choose Paste.

Hope this helps..... ..... .Ed

Not that I doubt you, but let me get this straight...

You do not have to ID to do this? How about if I put the URL of someone elses FTP Space in the window?

Paste is not an option that is highlighted when I get back to my FTP page on 5.00.

Are you running XP?

I've done this in Windows 98 and Windows 2000 Pro. When you type in an FTP URL you will be presented with a logon dialogue. If the site is secure (like where I store my image files) you won't get access unless you have been given a logon id and password. Many FTP sites allow "anonymous" users, and with those you log in as one (checkbox in the dialogue box). After you are "in" you use the same method of copying files that you would between two folders on your hard drive.

Hope this helps..... ..... .Ed

This either is a function of later IE only or is a function of certain FTP space on certain ISP's...Cuz darned if I have can make that work for me and IE 5.00.

I upgraded to the lastest and greatest IE every time it was offered...made my puter run like doo-doo, so I uninstalled and have stuck with 5.00 which is extremely stable on my rig. All I DL now are the security patches and 'critical updates'...

Thanks For The Education!

I use WS_FTP Pro. You can download it from Ipswitch.com. The new version has a pretty good interface.

There is FTP software built into Windows. Open a DOS box, type ftp, then at the ftp> prompt type help to see a list of commands.
