I first pulled the lift cover to remove the Hydraulic pump on my 1950 8N and found about a 1/2" of muck in the bottom of the pump. I took out all the plungers, springs and cleaned all well. Replaced the pressure relief and after putting it all back together and installing the pump I proceded to clean the lift cover and check the ajustments according to the FO-4 shop manual.
I also replaced the Hyd. piston and ring set with the NAA 530b.I put the lift cover back on and checked that the rocker lever made contact with the pump housing in the up position on the control lever. (GOOD SO FAR).. I started the tractor the lift arms came up about a foot and wouldn't go any higher. Looking through the side cover, I could watch the lift control arm move forward as I move the control lever towards the up position, BUT the control arm moved back slightly without me moving the control lever stopping the up movement of the lift arm. I removed the lift cover again and rechecked and noticed the pin onthe control arm was worn halh way through, went to my NH parts place and purchased a new pin and replaced it and checked the constant draft spring measurment (3 9/16"). Back on with the Lift cover, the lift arms raised about 18" and as I looked in the side cover the control arm went forward as before with the control lever being raised and then again the cotrol arm went back part way by itself. Does ANYBODY have any suggestions I can ponder on, I have removed the lift cover again for the third time and it's sitting on my bench.
Waiting the JIG and Instructions from Zane Sherman I ordered three days ago.

I would think the instruction book is copywrited meterial, if NOT it should be. I think everyone that puts a lot into a project should be rewarded for their efforts. MAYBE..BUY ONE.. Write to Zane Sherman and see if HE has it available.

Olcoot, Sounds like an adjustment problem somewhere. I bet you'll discover where when you get Zane's jig and instructions. I have yet to use the jig, but the instructions have come in handy on many occasions. Wish I could be more help, but I think you'll figure it all out in a few days. You made a wise investment in buying the jig and instructions!!!! Good luck!!!
Dave

Zane is a frequent contributor to this board and he makes and sells an adjustment jig just like the Ford tractor dealers were required to have that allows you to properly adjust the hydraulic linkage inside the top cover.

Go back over the last few pages of this forum for a link to his website. Look for posts by Zane or hyd related. He also makes a position control fo the 2N/9N called the Zane Thang.

8N JIG AND BOOKLET FOR ADJUSTING THE 8N LIFT
_____ _____ _____ _____ _____ _____ _____ _____ _____ 8N Ford tractor hydraulic lift adjusting jig and manual for adjusting the lift.----- The manual and the jig are priced at $65.00 including shipping to the USA. Proper adjustment of the 8N lift is next to impossible without the jig.8N FORD TRACTOR LIFT ADJUSTING JIG AND BOOKLET FOR ADJUSTMENT

This is something that has been needed for years. It is not an original idea for me. I used to be a mechanic and parts man in a small dealership in Talladega AL. and used such a jig to adjust the 8N lifts. The jig that was supplied to every Ford dealership was cast aluminum and I suppose that most or all of them have been lost or broken over the years because nobody can lay hands on one. I just made up my mind to resurrect the knowledge and so the booklet and jig that I have compiled and fabricated so it can be done in a more practical way.

I also include a new cam follower pin at no charge. ( They cost me $.12)

I will sell the jig and booklet for $65.00 including shippine to the continetal USA.

Send a personal check and it I will ship when it clears the bank Send a Money order and I will ship the next working day.

Send to— Zane Sherman 2824 Renfroe Road Talladega Al. 35160 256 268 2327
