I finally installed the replacement spool valve on my 8N Wagner loader. A couple of questions:

1. I rigged a piece of automotive heater hose as part of the return line in the hydraulic system. Is this acceptable?

2. The archieves suggested using 30 w non-detergent oil or hydraulic oil 042. I know Wal-Mart sells two gallon jugs of hydraulic oil? How do you tell grade?

Thanks for any help!

If it's a non-pressurized return hose, you may get by with it. I'd feel better if you used a piece of hydraulic hose, because if a hose ruptures, spraying hot hydraulic oil is dangerous.

Read the label on the oil jug. It will tell you the grade and rating and conformation specs. I don't know what Wagner specifies, but I'd try to find out first. Just because someone used 30 wt doesn't mean it's the best choice. It may be, but if I didn't know(and I don't)I'd be finding out.
