Richard..... ...justa bout 1/2 way down the page Larry posted under the announcement of a new gallary by Kim, our congenial webmistress, this well done visual for s/n location for N-Tractors. Remember ALL 9N's and 2N's s/n start with 9N. ALL 8N's start 8N.

Sometime the handstamped s/n is a little hard to read. Used lower case letter "b" as numerial six (6) or upside down letter "b" as numerial nine (9). and CAPS letter eye as numerial one (1). Don't ask me why but thats the way it was done.

Don't forget, on the left side of the page is a sidebar "Research & Info", down 10 entries is "Serial Numbers" follow that thru until you find the year of your s/n. Congratualtions, you now have the braggin' rights for what ever year your N-Engine was originally manufactured. Remember, N-Engines are ALL interchangeable, so your guess as to wheather the rest of your tractor manufacturing matches when your N-Engine was manufactured..... ..... Dell

Serial # is above starter & below head. They are sometimes very hard to read so clean this spot up very good and use a strong light. Sometimes they used the same stamp for different numbers. i.e.
6 for 9 I for 1 ect. Sometimes they are stamped rather hastily and an 8 will look like a 3 or two numbers will be stamped so close together you cant tell what it is so take your time. Hope this helps Allen (;^)

Located on the left side of the engine block in the middle area near the top in that 1 1/4 X 3 inch or so flat spot on the block. Mark H.
