I love the old girl,BUTsometimes i would like to pull my hair out trying to trouble shoot the problems i am having. I just finished putting her back together after replacing all the valves and guides.there was coolant in the oil which caused the valves to stick open after it had a chance to sit all winter long.soooo to make a long story short,I need to know if there is any where else that the oil and coolant could be mixing together, besides the head gasket which i have already replaced.(I also had the head shaved to insure complete flatness) HELP!!!!! (I ran the old girl about 1 hr after I got done putting her together, and I found oil in the coolant, and yes,I did flush the block outbefore putting new coolant in the engine.Any advice is appreciated.

I know you dont want to hear this but years ago we had an old tractor with a cracked block, a can of stop leak helped keep it going for several years of light use, hydrolic lock was its final downfall . ( plus Dad got the gears locked up, glad it wasent me or id got my hide tanned ) The old tractor was called a Centaur as I recall.

When you had the engine apart did you bring your radiator into a shop to have it cleaned? The only way I know to get rid of old oil in the radiator is to have it steamed out. You may just be seeing residue that was left in the radiator.

Uh, you may not wanna hear this, but a crack in the block'll do that. Not necessarily what you have, but it can only be checked by (gulp) tearing her down. I hope it's only head gasket problem as you suspect. Didya try re-torquing the head bolts in sequence?
