Well you learn something new everday. But this is one I could have skipped. Was plowing up the front forty last night. Dark was coming on pretty quick and I was try to get one last row in. I hit what I thought was a soft spot and begain to dig in. Rocked it back and forth a bit and managed to pull through it. But I wasn't plowing any more. Stoped jump off and went to see just what the problem was. Sniff, sniff, I smell gas???? Not gasoline - I mean natural gas. Looking at the plow, now just about completely dark there is a large clump of dirt in front of it. ????? Start kicking off dirt only to discover a 4' pice of 3" pipe with some kinda valve on it. All rusted up and the other end had a very thick pice of plastic pipe on it. OH CRAP!!! says I, what have I done. BTW there is a gas field a mile south of me. After fetching a light (not a latern) I was able to convence myself that the was just the remains of some old piping buried at some point. It was less than 8" down and I didn't find any more of it. But it still carried that awfull smell and for a few minutes had me going.

Errin OH, As a retired East Ohio Gas employee I would urge you to please give them a call and let them check it out, you dont have to give your name , just the location of the line hit, lets all keep it safe. ( sounds like an abandoned well line, let the pros. take care of it )

Rusty pipe with valve on it? Part of an old gas field? Pull it up and sell it on ebay as a priceless antique!
