Rusty is finding out how many wire brushes you go thru to clean up these tractors parts! I have found you need to buy the 50.00 ones to make them last thru several of them ans a big angle grinder driving them. I was lucky and picked up one complete with good brush for 5.00 at a garage sale awhile back. Now the brush is getting short and found out the replacement brush is over 50.00 for it!!! Mark H.

Rusty; I did not get your eMail. I was out side today doing this; Pulled a front axle assembly off, pull oil pan off, removed everything off the engine and pulled it, pulled the steering box and took it apart, pulled the transmission, left trumpet, both rear tires, pulled the hydraulic pump, removed top plate and took it apart, pulled the PTO shaft, removed the rear end gears, removed the yoke and pin from the top plate and had 2 cups of coffie to boot all done in 6 hours and I am tired!! Tell me about it Rusty. If I would've saved all the wire wheels that I wore-out doing mine I'd have a box full. And that's not counting the many parts I sandblasted.

By the way...How are ya feeling today?

Feeling some better. And I'm not even going as far into the restore as you did, or at least not planning on it. I just threw a wire cup away & it only did about 3-4 hours of brushing. A hot tank to soak the parts in would be cool. A complete restore would take forever. I got to keep telling myself this is just a work tractor.

"I got to keep telling myself this is just a work tractor."

Been there - done that! Started out to just rebuild the engine that was shot and my wife wondered outloud how it would look with the engine all rebuilt and painted, and the rest of it all rusted and ugly. Well....that was last January and a few thousand dollars later I'm still not quite through.

Glad you're feeling better!

I had mine running as a "work tractor" until I had no more work for it(we sold the farm to settle the estate). Then it sat for a year as a yard ornament. It was either sell it or restore it and I couldn't bear selling it. So now, 4 years later, it still sits in Mom's garage waiting for me to get finish it so I can bush-hog the edges of the cotton field around my house and grade my driveway.

NOPE! Sure haven't. In fact it's sitting on the desk in front of me right now. Obviously it wasn't something I needed. Of course I've got a jar full of nuts bolts and washers that I guess I didn't need either - LOL!

LOL, Greg (NV) !!
Somebody around here in my tractor's (NAA) past has a tiny spring that should have been placed back on the detent ball for the third gear rail. Not having it caused severe displacement of the third gear which led to the jamming of it and second, then to 7 shiny teeth ripped off the countershaft and sitting in the bottom of the tranny housing. That has led to meeting a talented tractor repair person in my local area, a helpful tractor parts business 1/2 way across Canada, and now I can admire my tractor's most intimate parts as it sits like a large unassembled LEGO toy in the workshop, sort of like Mark H's. So do you like have a , uummmm, little spring in your desk collection ???? (just kidding :-) )
