Just rebuilt a Ford 9N. Tractor has new crank,
rods/main bearings, and oil pump. It also has new mainfold and exhaust system. The tractor will run
fine for 15min. then puff smoke and later stop
running. Wait a few minutes she will run again.
Has strong gas smell. Ihave tried a different carb., changed coil, and plugs. I even replaced
resistor. I noticed now that resistor is getting
very hot!!!!What could be the problem? Tractor is 12volt. When first cranked it runs super and is very strong. Too much invested to give up.
PLEASE HELP!!!! Should I try another set of points or is that a waste.

check the interior of the air cleaner thoroughly including the tube and all passages. This was not a very good air filter and could plug easily. Also look for something that could be closing off the air supply that would produce the blue smoke and smell of gasoline.

Satcher, You replaced THE resistor??? If you have a 6 volt coil You MUST have 2 Resistors in series.
The original ballast and an icr-13 or equiv...

Satcher..... ...resistor is suppost to get hot.
There are 2 run-time issues common to frontmount N's that "cure themselves".
1) runs about 60 minutes and quits, bad ignition coil
2) runs abut 15 minutes and quits, bad ignition SWITCH Eazy to check, when it quits, jumper around the ignition switch with a wire, if it starts right back up, you know the drill, replace your BAD ignition switch..... ...Dell
