Just a quick note about easy starting 6 volt systems. A few weeks ago I did a complete tune up, new wiring harness along with new battery cables.

I started my ole N up this afternoon and of course it started right up. The only thing different, I had forgot to disengage the pto. Attached to it was my 6 foot finishing mower.

Who'd a thunk it?? Start up, under load, on push of the button, and at only 500 rpms.

When everything on the tractor is the way it is supposed to be 6 volt is wonderful. Ground is probably the most important maintainance item, and use a heavy enough cable.

A long time ago I used a 6 Volt System to turn the engine over to load a tractor on a trailor! Had to shift to 1st gear to go up the ramps but it did it none stop! Mark H.

Yep, I'll keep my 6V.

The 6v 'frog eye' lights on my 8n provide much more light than the built in 12v jobs on my NH 1920... I turned them both on in the barn last night, and there is no comparison... the 12v lights are about as bright as (1) of my N's 6v lights.

I realize there is a wattage difference... but it goes to show that 6v can do the job!

How "bright" your lights are is a function of power NOT voltage.

But remember, Power=voltageXcurrent so voltage has a direct effect, everything else being constant such as resistance. Another way of expressing power in terms of voltage is:

P=VxV/R

Light brightness however has a lot of other variables other than power, related to the reflector/glass efficacy and bulb resistance.
