I am replacing gaskets (oil pan, governor, trany cover, ect) on my '39 9N. Should I use a gasket sealer such as permatex to ensure a leak-free seal or just put them on dry? Thanks!

If yours still has the cast iron governor housing and no oil line going to it just use a brush on liquid gasket sealer like aviation permatex on all the gaskets to keep in place and to help sealing, if the governor housing is the white metal usually they need silicone on the gasket because those housings warp, silicone is not recommended anywhere else on a 9N, 2N or 8N when using the Ford (now New Holland) gaskets.

I would guess that the manufacturer made the tractor without the help of perma-gasket,but it sure does come in handy when your trying to keep the gasket in place in order to put the part on. I'd use it sparingly, and make sure that you dont fill in any oil return holes.my 2$ HTH
