I JUST PICKED UP THIS 1961 FORD 6000 DIESEL OVER THE WEEKEND AS A NEW PROJECT. I PLAN ON RETIRING THIS TRACTOR TO SHOW DUTIES. THE ORIGINAL PAINT SHOULD BE RED AND GRAY JUST LIKE THE 8N. THIS TRACTOR IS IN ADDITION TO MY HARD WORKING 1950 8N, WHICH IS CURRENTLY PUSHING AND PULLING THIS BIG BOY AROUND SINCE IT DOES NOT RUN. AND THE GOOD NEWS, IT IS ALREADY 12 VOLTS! PHILIP.

8N tractors were painted true red while later models were painted orange red. Thus they should be defferent colors if painted correctly. Also
all diesels were 12 volt to provide enough power to start the high compression engine. I'll keep my opinion on switching 6 volt tractors to 12 to myself for now.

We had a Commander 6000 as our primary tractor back in the early '70s. I believe it was '65, in the blue and gray. Sweet machine and never any problem with the SOS. Keep us posted on the progress of your restoration!

Bill

Don't know when they switched colors, but some of the Commanders were blue/grey, were they not?

1961 WAS THE ONLY YEAR THE TRACTOR WAS RED AND GRAY. ALL 1961 TRACTORS WERE RECALLED DUE TO PROBLEMS WITH THE TRANSMISSION, HYDRAULICS, AND LEAKS. ALL RECALLED TRACTORS WERE PAINTED BLUE BEFORE THEY LEFT TO SHOW THAT THEY HAD BEEN REBUILT. THE BLUE PAINT IS PEELING OFF OF THIS TRACTOR SHOWING THE ORIGINAL RED UNDERNEATH. PHILIP.

I used to see one sitting by the road for years, then it was gone. I'd like to have one myself. Do you reckon the SOS works?

RIGHT NOW THE ENGINE DOES NOT RUN AND SOS DOES NOT WORK, BUT I DO NOT KNOW HOW MINOR OR MAJOR OF A PROBLEM I HAVE RIGHT NOW. MAYBE JUST ADJUSTMENT, OR MAYBE PARTS BROKE, HOPEFULLY JUST ADJUSTMENT. PHILIP.
