There is a ballance to the universe. Last week I was working on my rear-mounted mower, took off the original PTO cap I'd gotten on e-bay a few months ago, set it down, mowed for a while, and I haven't been able to find the PTO cap since! Where the heck did I put the durn thing? I've been grumpy since I "misplaced" it, hoping it isn't somewhere in the yard, or in the Black Hole of Calcutta (also called my workshop), as I might not see it again for years.

Anyway, since finding the cap provided impetus for cleaning up the garage (and the wife wants her car DAMMIT in the garage this winter!), I started moving things around and sweeping out the place. Found a 5-gallon bucket full of misc. hardware I'd set in the corner years ago, thinking I would someday sort out all the nails, screws, do-hickies, etc. Just to see what was in it, I dumped it out on the concrete and started pawing through it.

No, I didn't find the missing cap. What I did find was a pair of original Ford tractor pliers, the only ones Marvin Bauman says are correct for the 8N tool kit. Matched them up to another pair I had gotten from Mr. Bauman, they're an exact match! Couldn't believe it! Those pliers had been in there for years! I can remember almost throwing them out long ago, and I must have missed the trash can and tossed them into this other bucket instead.

SO.....now would be a good time to get theological or philosophical, but I'll leave that to greater minds than mine. It's true however that the good Lord looks after babies and fools (and I'm 44!) Anybody wanna trade a pair of pliers for a PTO cap?..... ..

Anyone know if the original tapered pto cap will fit the modern 1- 3/8 pto shafts?

Right now I have the aftermarket big 'plug' style aluminum cap.. painted black.. looks nice.. but original would be better... but the original looks awfully small at the tapered end.. not sure of clearance.

Thanks

Paul,
I bet you put it on the rear tire and forgot it. Then as you pulled away you ran over it and pressed it into the ground. This is the sort of
thing that happens to me!

Clunk..... This is the noise you will hear when the rotating blade makes contact with the cap.. That is if it is a steel one. Clink, if it is made out of aluminum...
Happy Motoring

As soon as you trade, you'll find the PTO cap. Most likely, when you're mowing....
