Well folks , Due to circumstances beyond my control I've got to move to town. I've really learned a lot about my '52 8n from you all. I have had great fun bumming around here on the northern part of Marylands eastern shore with it for the past 10 years. My question is ; other than leaving the barn open what's the best way,( read most money) to part with my tractor and all of its associated play things, about 10 or 11 implements. Classifieds, auction, consignment at a dealer, E-bay even. I was going to put the tractor and implements in the new yard with a for sale sign. But the wife nixed that plan, said the neighbors would figure out I was a hillbilly soon enough . I really hate to let it go, and I'm sure I've got more money and time in the little fella than I'll ever get out but I don't want to get skinned either. Thanks again for all the advice, Rudy :>( sorry for the long post and the whining.

Just a thought....do you have a son, nephew, burly niece or daughter, who could really use it? I missed the oppurtunity to own my own grandpa's N, and I sold my Dad's John Deere L when I was young and foolish. I sure wish I had em now, they were like old friends, who seemed to acquire the charactor of their owners.

Good Luck, Steve

Rudy,

Some of them young fella's at one of them eastern schools disassembled a car and moved it into a room in some building. Get you a place with a spare bedroom, or better yet, a big living room.

If ya' really gotta say "so long" to her (the tractor, not the wife) and you want to know how to send her down the road, don't ask the N owners. Ask the "tractor widows" and "widowers."

Have you considered selling off some or even most of the implements then selling the tractor at a fairly low price to a friend, neighbor or (gasp) relative with the understanding you get to buy it back if your circumstances improve. Meaning, you don't have to live so darn close to town.

Best of luck with whatever happens.
Russ

I sympathize with you. I have had my NAA for over 25 years and I would hate to part with it. It has been a faithful helper. And it was something my Dad and I shared. Even tho we only have a 1/2 lot, it has helped build the garden area, removed trees, graded low areas and I used it last year to complete renovate the front lawn after the city put in curb and gutter and decided my front yard was the place to park a heavy piece of equipment. I have finally finished restoring it to original colors and new(used) fenders, doglegs, etc. My wife knows how much this tractor means to me and accepts the fact that she will be the one getting rid of it after I am dead, but not before. Howsomever, if you can't keep it and can't find someone to store it, try the classified ads here. I have bought some good parts from the folks there that have advertised there and have felt that it was a fair deal all around.

Rudy - I feel bad for you. My wife made me sell my 9N so she could buy the computer I am now typing on. I then went and found an 8N and after about $1700 and a lot of time she is a new gal and I will never part with her. Could you convince your wife that you might one day start a landscaping business or that the 8N, when properly set up, can serve as an emergency generator? There's got to be a way to keep her! (Even if you have to stretch the truth a tad! ha ha) I'm pulling for you.

I'm getting closer to the same situation. I have had my 1951 8N since 1964. My wife is starting to make noises that we need to sell and move closer to town. I may let her go to town. I told her the tractor goes with me. If the neighbors think I'm a hillbilly or a redneck they have good perception. I always said that if that tractor got to worn to repair, I was going to shove it in the road ditch and make a mail box stand out of it! I also have one of about everything you can hang on the back of these little tractors, so if I go to town I'm going to have to have a big yard. Have you thought of keeping the tractor and trading the wife? (Just kinda kidding) Scott.

Rudy;

The best way to get rid of it, as with most things in life, "depends"... If you have time, run a classified. Ebay, if you are short on time. Be sure to include a reserve, so you get the minimun you want for it. If you don't want to mess with the mess, have a consignment take it. You might get more for the implements listing them one at a time...
What do you think your chances are of returning to the good life? If mine were one in ten, I'd hang on to the tractor. But if you want top dollar for it, paint it a goofy color, say it comes from California, and has won several awards... I hear they get 15,000 for them out there...

Regards and Merry Christmas
Bill

Let me know what you decide, I have been hankering for a side mount 8n...

MAN! Not even ONE reply with advise on how to get rid of your tractor!!!...Know what? I am not suprised. If everyone here feels the same way I do about tractors, They cant tell you how to get rid of them. I'll bet they can give MANY ideas on how to get another one though! :) Sorry to hear you have to let her go. If I lived in your neck of the woods, I would be more than happy to donate some space for her and her implements.
Good luck!
Greg

Did you think of joining a club where you can store your beloved?
I was in the same boat, my 9N and I were almost inseparable. But I belong to an antique engine club and so can park it there. Check

Rudy,

I can't stand to see a grown man cry! OK, you can store it at my house as long as you want. Just one condition: you gotta leave the key. You know, in case I need to move it out of my way (grin).

My condolences. If there is any way that You can keep it, do it. But I understand. Good luck. That many implements? Wow. I only have a back blade and a bush-hog.
