A friend of mine is considering buying a Ferguson, I think it is a TO model. Someone told me once that Ferguson parts are very costly compared to say the N-series Fords. Can anyone comment on this and maybe give some examples of price comparisons?

A few years ago, I bought my first n tractor. Originally, I thought I had a 1948 8n. After getting it home and going through the brakes, I discovered that the rear axles, brakes and hubs were from a Ferguson TE-20. So, there seems to be many parts that can cross-over between the Fergusons and the early Fords. In fact, the ferguson brake system was very simple in design and larger in diameter, creating more braking surface and better braking (my opinion).

I own a TO-20, and I have also had N's (I have a 9N at the moment, also). When it comes to buying new parts, I find that there is little difference in the price of parts between the two brands. There are more aftermarket parts available for the N's- but many seem to be of dubious quality.

Also, as Willy-N pointed out, the Fergusons seem to break less frequently. [looks both ways to make sure no one else is looking] The Fergusons seem to be made sturdier and more simply than the Fords, so even if the parts did cost more, you'd probably need less of them! And as a practical matter, the Fergies are easier to work on.....the tilt-open hood having a lot to do with this!(The Fords are good tractors too)

I have sold Fergusons in parts and they bring about the same. The problem is that there are not hardly any parts on eBay for them?? Not sure why don't want to say they don't break down as often but it is hard to find them around here and when I do they are running good and not for sale. Could also be that there were a lot more Ns made so parts and broken ones are easier to find. Heads cost around 300.00 but that don't count. Blocks are worth more too. The hydraulic system is the same as the 9Ns and 2Ns same pump and controls along with the top plate, lift arms and a few other parts. The rims will work from the 8Ns and vice verses. Mark H.
