On my 50 8N, After removing the Hydraulic lift yoke and spring and spring plate, I foung that the pin that is rivited in the control spring plate is sheared off The plate is in exceptional shape concidering the age. Since I don't have the old one to go by and I think I can replace the rivit with a shear pin, I am unsure of how long does the pin (rivit) have to be?

It is an expansion or roll pin and it simply driven into the plate. It is about one inch long and you can get the old one out by using a punch of the right size to drive out the old part remaining in the plate and then you will know what size to buy. Roll pins can be bought at most tractor dealers or at an industrial supply house.

All it does is to keep the linkage relatively straight as it passes the rocker arm in the lift and keeps the linkage straight where it mounts to the control rod to the control valve. It does need to be there to avoid unesesary wear in the linkage but I have seen lift work for years with the dowel missing.
