No Oil Pressure on Startup.

A couple of days ago I was cover cropping a five acre plot on a reasonably hot day. Today I fired up my 44' 2N and noticed that I have no oil pressure. I cracked open an oil line while it was running and, still no pressure. I drained the oil and tried to wiggle the pickup tube-a little play, but not what I'd think was enough to be a problem. Removed the pressure relief valve, but no obvious problem there too. What gives? I'd rather not have to tear her down if I don't have to...especially when I have a bit more to do at the end of this season...ugh

Remove your oil line at the oil pressure guage. Take a squirt can and pump oil in the line. This will send oil through the engine. After pumping an adequate amount of oil, hook up you oil guage and the tractor should have oil pressure. I found this was easier than forcing oil in the oil pressure relief opening.

I ended up pumping oil into my relief valve, and voila! It magically got its pressure back. I've worked on hundreds of vehicles over the years, and I don't ever remember coming accross an oil pump that lost its prime--lots of hyd lifters do, but oil pumps? Who knew? If it happens again I'll try pumping into the external oil lines like you've suggested.
Thanks, Casey
